Green flag to kuttipuram Ponnani Highway

After a long period of years finally, Kuttipuram-Ponnani highway is going to be open on January 2016. It is announced that national highway up to Ponnani will be inaugurated by Home minister of Kerala, Sri Ummen chandi on 16th January 2016. Almost all works of highway have completed.

Special Feature

Poetry "Njan"- a collection of Malayalam poem by Ibrahim Ponnani has published.



"Njan" the poetry which is a collection of 65 Malayalam poems by Poet Sri: Ibrahim Ponnani has published on 14.11.2015. Famous writer Alamkode Leelakrishnan inaugurated the function which was held at Ponnani AVHS School. Ibrahim Ponnani started his journey as a poet before 48 years.

New face to fish Market :Chamravattam

After a long discussion, a new fish market has been constructed at chamravattam junction Ponnani. It was inaugurated on 22 November 2015. As earlier fishes were sold in national highway roadside, and there was no proper facility for waste water.

Government has decided to develop Ponnani under SWISS Challenge method (Ponnani Cargo- an upcoming Project)


The work for Ponnani cargo port has been started. Chennai-based construction agency, Malabar Ports Private Limited (MPPL) has received the clearance for the construction from the ministry of environment and forest. Chief Minister of Kerala Sri Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the project on Saturday 8 August 2015, which is expected to bring a multifaceted development in Malabar. The project will be undertaken in public-private partnership mode.

PONNANI

Ponnani is blessed with both natural beauty and spirituality. The former place is also known as Ponani and Paniyani. It serves the administrative center of the Taluk and Block panchayath of the same name. Both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha or Legislative Assembly of the place is Ponnani itself, which is situated near to Nila River (Bharathapuza).West of the place, is bounded by the Arabian Sea. It is the one of the oldest port in Southern India. During the period of Zamorins, this place is considered as the second capital of the kingdom of Calicut and it was the headquarters of the famous naval army Kunhali Marakkar. Ponnani has also contributed a great deal to the literary and cultural heritage of Kerala.

Ponnani Juma Masjid


Ponnani is nicknamed as “kochu Mecca (small Mecca)” because it is the town of mosques. It is believed that the legendary Malik Ibnu Dinar who is the first Islamic missionary in Kerala visited here when came to Kerala. Juma Masjid (Valiya Palli ) was built in Hijra 925 which is in the year of 1510. This Mosque is built in the traditional Kerala architecture. Islamic spiritual leader Zainudhin makhdum was the constructor of this Masjid. A Hindu artisan namely Ashaari was the architect of the Juma Masjid who was a friend of Zainudhin makhdum. Later he converted to Islam and came to known as Ashaari Thangal. Ponnani is an important centre for education in the philosophy of Islam.

Thrikkavu Temple


Sri Durga Bhagavathy Temple Thrikkavu is an ancient Temple situated in Ponnani. The main deity of this temple is Goddess Durga. Thrikkavu Bhagavathy is believed to be “Sarvabeeshtapradhayini” (one who grants all wishes) and numerous bhakthas have stories legion to tell of her supreme benevolence. The main festival is Navaratri Mahotsavam which attracts a large number of devotees. It is considered as one of the 108 Durga temples consecrated by Lord Parasurama in Kerala. It is believed that the name Thrikkavu originated from "Thrikkani Kaadu". The Devi is here in her four arms (Chathurbhaahu) form with Chakra, Sankha, Varada and katibadha. Apart from the main deity, the temple complex consists of Krishna temple and Upa-Devatha temples for Mahaganapathi, Sasthavu, Sidhi Vinayakan, Hanuman and Brahma Rakshass.

Chamravattom Bridge also known as Chamravattom Regulator-cum-Bridge is one of the longest bridge in Kerala. The Bridge has 978-meter length and 10.5 m width which is built across Bharathapuza. It is the largest regulator-cum-bridge in the Kerala state. Bridge has 70 shutters. The foundation stone for the project was laid by formal Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan on September 13, 2009, and the Bridge was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, on 17 May 2012.Chamravattom project would benefit irrigation, transport, agriculture drinking water supply, tourism. The road distance between Kochi and Kozhikode stands reduced by 40 km through  Bridge, distance between ponnani-Tirur, Ponnani-Malappuram stands reduced by 20Km, 10Km respectively.
Chamravattom is blessed with natural beauty. There is temple namely Lord Ayyappa temple which is situated 100 meters inward to the river Nila. Before, as in rainy season poojari was able to go by boat for poojas in Temple. This temple is famous for flood arattu. Nearby places from Chamravattom Bridge are Ponnani, Edappal, Thavanur, Kuttipuram, and Tirur.




Shortest distance from Ernakulam to Calicut

Traveling via Chamravattam Bridge Reduces approximately 40 Km from Ernakulam to Calicut and vice versa. The Bridge also helps to reduce traffic at Kuttipuram, Edappal, Valanchery and Kottakal.

Chamravattom Ayyappa Temple


Chamravattom Ayyappa temple is famous for flood arattu for Ayyappan which is located in Chamravattom, Malappuram district-Kerala. This place is blessed with natural beauty destined to be guarded by Lord Ayyappa. The temple is located 100 meters inward to Nila or Bharathapuza, which is the second longest river in Kerala. It is believed that by praying here, devotees can get rid of diseases. The main offerings of the Lord Ayyappa temple are Panapaayasam and lamping. The temple looks small in size, which is surrounded by water. During Monsoon season, Poojari was supposed to go to the temple by boat for performing poojas.

The devotees from different places came to Chamravattom Lord Ayyappa temple during monsoon season for the sacred bath (arattu). But now it exists in memories only. After construction of Chamravattam Bridge, the possibilities of arattu has been reduced. But the temple is well protected with good compound and way.

Chamravattom Kadavu / Eswaramangalam Kadavu



   Before opening Chamravattam Bridge peoples was suppose to use Eswaramangalam Kadavu or Chamravattom Kadavu for traveling. There was only one Canoe (തോണി) and a boatman. The canoe will start from the Eswaramangalam ghat. Actually at the middle of the river from Chamravattam Kadavu is covered with huge amount of sand, so it was quite difficult to go with the canoe to destination part of the river. Both sides of ghat is too depth, so there was two canoe. People have to walk through sand in the middle of the river. There were only two rupees per head for traveling. As in rainy seasons, it is much difficult to travel. The water level in the river will hike up to 40% more than the summer season. Sand in the middle of the river will be covered with water. Boat is fixed with an engine, as in earlier it was paddling. The minimum number of people can travel in a canoe is up to 15-20, but it was more dangerous to take more than twenty peoples. Later, they started to take the vehicle (Two-wheeler) in the boat. Later two canoes were tightly getting built together, for more safe and comfortable traveling. Today, Kadavu is there without the canoe.
